I remember always getting asked this question in middle school. My answer was always Britney Spears or Ryan Sheckler. How dumb.
Today in class we watched a special that Oprah broadcasted last year on the last 25 years dealing with race. It was a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Throughout the whole show I just kept thinking to myself, what a great man. It was very inspirational and I came to the conclusion once again that if I could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, it would be Martin Luther King Jr. Hands down. I hope that one day I am half the person that he was. So here are just a few of my favorite quotes by him:
‘The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.’‘The time is always right to do what is right.’‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.’‘The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.’‘To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.’‘We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.’‘In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.’‘Means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek.’
One day hopefully the hate subsides, and the love can begin.
xoxo
